Guide to Oregon's Off Road Vehicle Fun

Oregon offers numerous places to take your ATV. Contact the appropriate managing agency for maps or other information regarding these sites.

John Day has 3 somewhat difficult trails totaling 16 miles and is in a 10 mile radius around the town of John Day. It is open in the summer and fall. The managing agency is Malheur National Forest Blue Mountain Ranger District Phone: 541-575-3000. Maps are available from local U.S. Forest Service offices.

(ATV) All terrain vehicles and (OHV) off road vehicles in oregonBLUE MOUNTAIN OHV TRAIL has 60 miles of trails open in the Summer and Fall. The location site is 8 miles west of Unity. The managing agency is the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest Unity Ranger District, PO Box 39, Unity OR 97884. Phone: 541-446-3351.

BLUE RIDGE is located about 15 miles southeast of Coos Bay. It is open year-round except stay off the trails when they are wet Oct.-June. You can contact the land managing agency for trail status. CHETCO is located in the Southwestern corner of Oregon and is open in the Spring, Summer, and Fall. There are 2 trails available for Class III ATV's. Chetco Gorge Trail is along the upper Chetco River northeast of Brookings. Chimney Camp Trail is located southeast of Brookings on the Winchuck River. CHRISTMAS VALLEY SAND DUNES offer more than 8,000 acres of sand dunes. There are opportunities for easy and difficult rides. The season is year-round although muddy in the winter. The location is approximately 80 miles southeast of Bend and 80 miles north of Lakeview near the town of Christmas Valley. CRANE MOUNTAIN offers 8 miles of Class I and Class III trails during the Spring, Summer, and Fall. It is located 10 miles south of Lakeview off US 395. The managing agency is Fremont National Forest Lakeview Ranger District, Hwy 395 N, HC 64 Box 60, Lakeview OR 97630. Phone: 541-947-3334

COTTAGE GROVE is located about 35 miles southeast of Cottage Grove. (Take I5 Exit 174 and head east on Row River Rd) and is open in the Summer and Fall except when snowed out. There are 3 available trails. The 4 mile Noonday Wagon Road #1405 is open for Class I, II, and III ATVs. Knott Trail #1417 is 3.9 miles long and open to Class I, II, and III ATVs." and Bohemia National Recreation Trail is open only for Class III. DIAMOND LAKE offers several trails for Class I and Class III ATVs and are open in the Summer and Fall. The trails are located about 80 miles southeast of Roseburg on Highway 138, north of the Diamond Lake Ranger Station. EAST FORT ROCK offers 318 miles of easy to difficult trails year round unless closed for fire danger or snow. The location around 21 miles east of Bend on Highway 20. EDISON BUTTE has 25 miles of difficult trails and is open Summer and Fall. The location is 8 miles west of Bend on Highway 46 toward Mt. Bachelor. ELLIOT RIDGE is located about 30 miles southwest of Medford in the Summer and Fall. (Check at ranger station in Jacksonville for trail details.) There are trails available for Class III ATVs. GALICE is located about 15 miles west of Grants Pass near Galice on the Rogue River. It is open in the Spring, Summer, and Fall and has a variety of National Forest trails suitable for Class III OHV's with varying levels of challenge and skill. GLACIER OHV AREA offer 6 trails totaling 26 miles for Class I and Class III ATVs ranging from easy to difficult. The site is located about 20 miles southwest of Unity and is open in the Summer and Fall. The managing agency is the Malheur National Forest Prairie City Ranger District, PO Box 337, Prairie City, OR 97869. Phone: 541-820-3311

GREEN MOUNTAIN has 9 miles of difficult trails and is open year-round except when closed due to snow or fire danger. The location is around 15.5 miles north of Prineville. HENDERSON FLAT offers 18 miles of trails from easy to difficult and is open April-November. The location from Terrebonne, take Highway 97 two miles north of the Crooked River Gorge. Turn east on Park Lane for two miles and then take Forest Road 57 for one mile to the staging area. The managing agency is the Crooked River National Grassland, 813 SW Hwy 97, Madras OR 97741. HONEYMAN STATE PARK is located 3 miles south of Florence on Highway 101 and is available October 1 – April 30 for ATV's class I,II,& III. HUCKLEBERRY FLATS has 33 miles of trails for Class I and III ATVs and is open year-round except for closures due to snow or fire danger. To get there take Westfir exit off Highway 58 at MP 31. Then go Left after the (green) bridge onto Westfir Road. Go past the red covered bridge and continue for 14 (paved) miles on FS Road 19 to Road 1928. Follow road to staging area. KLAMATH SPORTSMAN'S PARK offers over 20 acres of riding areas for Class I, II, and III ATVs and is open year-round. The location .is about 20 miles southwest of Klamath Falls through the town of Keno on Hwy 66. The managing agency is the Klamath Sportsmans Park, PO Box 596, Klamath Falls OR 97601. MCCUBBINS GULCH offers 50 miles of motorcycle and ATV trails and is open in the Spring, Summer, and Fall except when closed due to fire danger or snow. The location is about 60 miles southeast of Portland near Maupin. The managing agency is the Mt. Hood National Forest Barlow Ranger District, 73558 Hwy 216, Maupin OR 97037. Phone: 541-467-2291

MCGREW 4WD TRAIL offers 20 miles of 4WD trail for the very experienced and is open year-round except when closed due to fire danger or snow. The area is remote and should not be attempted alone as there are lots of rock and mud. The location is about 15 miles southwest of Cave Junction on Hwy 199. MILLICAN VALLEY has 256 miles of easy to difficult trails. North Millican is open May-Nov and has a play area and 3 staging area. South Millican is open Aug-Nov and has 1 staging area and 1 play area and Millican Plateau has 1 play area. The location is about 25 miles southeast of Bend on both sides of Hwy 20 near the town of Millican. The managing agency is the Prineville BLM Office, 3050 NE 3rd St, Prineville OR 97754. MORROW COUNTY TRAILS is open year-round except when closed due to fire danger or snow and has 100 miles of Class I, II and III ATV trails. The location is the southern part of Morrow County along Highway 207, between milepost 21 and 22. The managing agency is the Morrow County Public Works, PO Box 428 Hwy 74, Lexington OR 97839. MT. BABER ATV TRAILS offer many trails and roads for Class I and III ATVs and is open year-round except if closed due to fire restrictions. The location is about 2 miles east of Eddyville. Turn south on Deer Creek Rd. and follow signs. From Elk City, go 5 miles on ElkCity-Harlan Rd. to Updike Rd. go 2 miles north to Mt. Baber staging area. You must have membership in the Mt. Baber Club to ride the trails located on private land. Detailed information is available at the Philomath office or by calling members of the Mt. MT. FANNY offers 20 miles of Class I and III trails and is open year-round except for closures due to fire danger or snow. The location is about 20 miles east of La Grande near Cove. NORTH UMPQUA offers 9 difficult trails for Class III ATVs. There are guides available at Glide office. The trails are open in the Summer and Fall and the managing agency is the Umpqua National Forest North Umpqua Ranger District, 18782 North Umpqua Hwy, Glide OR 97443. Phone: 541-496-3532

OREGON DUNES NATIONAL RECREATION AREA is open year-round and offer sand dunes and trails for easy to difficult riding for all classes of ATVs. The location is about 40 miles of coastline between Florence and Coosbay. The managing agency is the Siuslaw National Forest Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, 855 Highway Avenue, Reedsport, OR 97467. Phone: 541-271-3611

PINE GROVE AND ILLINOIS RIVER TRAILS offer year-round access to 2 difficult forest trails for Class III ATVs. Illinois River trail is open in late summer. Pine Grove is open all year. The location is about 35 miles northeast of Gold Beach near the town of Agnes. PROSPECT offers several trails and roads for Class I, II and III ATVs in the Summer and Fall. The location is about 40 miles northeast of Medford on Hwy 62. ROSLAND RECREATION SITE is located about 26 miles south of Bend to Wickiup Junction and is open year-round unless closed due to snow. There is a beginner and advanced play area with 3.5 miles of trails. The managing agency is the Bureau of Land Management Prineville District Office, 3050 NE 3rd St, Prineville, OR 97754. SAND LAKE RECREATION AREA offers year-round access with sand dunes and easy to difficult riding for all classes of ATVs. The location is about 17 miles southwest of Tillamook and 6 miles north of Pacific City. The managing agency is the Siuslaw National Forest Hebo Ranger District Office, PO Box 235, Hebo OR 97122. SANTIAM PASS is available in the summer but is restricted to roads posted with orange dots in burned area near Island Lake, Link Lake and Cache Lake due to the fire in 2003. There are signs and maps posted along Hwy 22 east of the summit. 1,500 acres of trails and roads in the Cascade Mountains for Class I, II and III ATVs. The location is about 90 miles east of Eugene and 50 miles west of Bend at Santiam pass on Hwy 20. SAUNDERS LAKE DUNE ACCESS offers 15 acres year-round. It is located between Hauser and Spinreel at Crannog Rd. The managing agency is the South Coast Trail Riders, 74799 Crannog Rd., North Bend, Oregon 97459. Phone: 541-759-3601

SHOTGUN CREEK OHV AREA offers year-round 24 miles of varying difficulty trails for Class I and III operators and one 1.3 mile trail for Class II operators. From I5 north, take Exit 216. Go 11 miles to Brush Creek Rd. Turn right and go 16 miles to Shotgun Cr Rd (look for signs). From I5 south, take I105 4 miles east to 42nd Street. Left at light, right on Marcola to Shotgun Cr Rd. TILLAMOOK STATE FOREST OHV AREAS offers more than 100 miles of trails year round for beginners and experts Class I,II, & III. Three areas are off Hwy 6 (Browns Camp at milepost 33, Diamond Mill at milepost 22.8, and Jordan Creek at milepost 18). Trask is south of Tillamook on Hwy 101. UPPER NESTUCCA OHV AREA offers about 27 miles of trails and 3 staging areas. It is open year-round except for fire danger. The location is in the Coast Range mountains around 17 miles southwest of McMinnville and 9 miles north of Willamina. UPPER WALLA WALLA offers 40 miles of Class III trails during the SSpring, Summer, and Fall. The site is located 12 miles east of Milton-Freewater up Walla Walla River Rd to Harris Park. WEST END (SUNFLOWER) offers 37,000 acres for Class I and III ATVs with all degrees of difficulty available. The location is Northwest of John Day near town of Spray. The managing agency is the Umatilla National Forest Heppner Ranger District, PO Box 7, Heppner OR 97836. Phone: 541-676-9187

WINCHESTER OHV TRAILS is open year-round with 22 miles of moderately difficulty trails for Class III ATVs, mountain bikes and equestrian users.
