City History
|
The arrival of the
railroad marked the beginning of people migrating to the
Cornelius area. T.R.Cornelius, was one of the
settlers who settled in the Tualatin Valley. Cornelius
served 20 years in the Territorial Legislature then
returned to his 1300-acre farm in 1871, and built a
grain warehouse. During that time Ben Holladay built a
railroad depot that consisted of a post office and a
telegraph office. The area was called Free
Orchards but Holladay named his new town after the
prominent storeowner T. R. Cornelius. The City was
incorporated in the spring of 1893. |
