According to the 2000 census, there were 17,708 residents of Forest Grove.   Of those 87.2% were white, 3.7% were Asian, and 8.6% were other.  Families (non-single residence) make up 65.2% of the population.  The average household income for 2007 was $41,651 while the average Washington County household income was $73,642 and the U.S. average was $60,374.

City History

Forest Grove was settled by pioneers in 1840.  The City was named for a large grove of Oregon white oak situated on a knoll rising over the Tualatin Plains.  Forest Grove contains the largest giant sequoia in Oregon. It is located on the corner of Pacific Avenue and B Street.  This tree is 32 feet in circumference, 152 feet high and has a crown averaging 70 feet in diameter.  Pacific University in Forest Grove was founded in 1849, making it one of the oldest educational institutions in the western United States.  Forest Grove became incorporated in 1872.
