City History
|
The Lloyd District in
Northeast Portland is named after Ralph Lloyd a
California rancher, oilman, and real estate developer
who began developing the area. The area west of
Interstate 5 is called the Rose Quarter. Prior to urban
renewal in the 1950s, this area was an African American
residential community, including many who had lost their
homes in the Vanport flood of 1948. East of I-5 is the
location of most of the district. The Oregon Convention
Center and Lloyd Center Mall are the principal landmarks
of the area. |
