This page provides information about all the park and recreation facilities in Vernonia, Oregon.  It includes addresses, phone numbers, bus stop numbers, and off leash dog park information.


Vernonia Park and Recreation:

Vernonia Pioneer Museum, 511 East Bridge St, Vernonia, Phone: 503-429-3713. Admission is free. Hours of operation are June – September, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 1-4pm and October – May hours are Saturday and Sunday, 1-4pm.

Shay Park houses the Shay locomotive #102 which was once owned and operated by the Oregon-American Lumber Company. Amenities include park benches, historic artifacts, and picnic areas.

The Mill Pond is located on the premises of what used to be a large lumber mill. The photo links below contain a news story and photos about the mill and the pond.

Vernonia Bike Skills Park The site is located within the city of Vernonia on the north side of the Nehalem River Valley and immediately west and adjacent to Vernonia Lake. This facility will be linked to other bicycle-specific attractions. When complete, this trail system will be a 60-mile route from the Willamette River (Multnomah Channel) to Vernonia, and then on to Banks.

Vernonia Airport Park is located 4 miles southwest of Vernonia off Timber Road, next to Vernonia Municipal Airport. Amenities include: 23 primitive campsites, picnic areas, group tent camping, fishing, handicapped accessible restrooms, and drinking water.

Anderson Park Host has 19 full hookup sites, group camping, and an RV & tent area, ADA accessible covered shelter for group picnics, picnic tables, ADA restroom/shower facility and a playground. The park also houses a horse arena. The river is accessible for fishing and swimming. 450 Jefferson Ave., Vernonia Oregon, Phone: 503-429-2531.

Banks-Vernonia Trail offers 21-mile railroad path through forest grounds.

Hawkins Park amenities include: the Scout Cabin, Gazebo, sport field, horseshoe pits, playground, picnic area and restrooms. In early summer a small dam across Rock Creek creates "Dewey Pool" swimming area. There is also a concrete kiddy pool adjacent to the creek. There is a lifeguard on duty, Monday – Saturday noon to 6 pm when the pool is up and running.

Ora Bolmeier Park is located on Louisiana Avenue north of Bridge Street. Amenities include: picnic and playground areas.

Spencer Park is located at the north end of Missouri Avenue east of downtown and off Bridge Street. It offers a multi-sports park with fields for softball, baseball, soccer or football.

Vernonia Lake offers primitive camping area with fire pits, restrooms, and drinking water. The lake has a boat ramp (gas powered motors are not allowed), ADA wheelchair accessible fishing docks and restrooms, and a children's playground area.
